CHAKRA is the Sanskrit word for ‘Wheel’, or ‘Vortex’, and refers to each of the seven energy centers of which our consciousness, our energy system, is composed. The first written references we have for this concept was given to us by the ancient Hindu writings, although the concepts of energy centers and circuits in the physical body are repeated with slight variation in nearly every religion and spiritual belief system throughout recorded time. The concept of the halo as depicted in paintings throughout history is a strong reference to the manifestation of a completely open and functioning seventh chakra.

The chakras function as regulators for the flow of energy through and around us. They are not physical. They are aspects of our consciousness and are denser than auras which are, in fact, manifestations of the colors of our open and functioning chakras but they are not as dense as the physical body. Chakras interact with our physical bodies through our endocrine system and our nervous system. Each of the seven chakras are associated with one of the seven endocrine glands and also with a plexus of nerves and are each thus associated with a particular part of the body and a particular function of the body that is controlled by that particular plexus or endocrine gland.

All of our senses, perceptions, possible states of awareness, everything that it is possible for us to experience can be divided into seven categories. Each of these categories can be associated with a particular chakra. In effect, we are not merely one physical body but we are each one, seven distinctive and interacting bodies. We work to become proficient at understanding the uses of our physical bodies. How much more that we should give the same attention to our non-physical bodies? The collective radiation of our personal energy fields on average extends up to twenty-six feet in all directions, that is in all spherical directions.

The chakras line up, more or less, through the center of the body beginning with the root chakra at the location between the asphincter muscle and the scrotum (in men) and the vaginal cavity (in women).

This root chakra is the first chakra and its energy processing center is the basis for survival, rooting, support, grounding in our interconnectedness with the earth. It’s element is earth and as our physical bodies were made of the ‘dust of the ground’, the root chakra governs most intensely our physical bodies. Specifically, it governs the function of the ovaries/testis, excretion, digestion, small intestines, colon, prostate and kidneys. When this chakra is open and balanced in an individual, the aura radiated is bright red. They will have a mastery over the self, will be able to manifest abundance and limitless energy. If, however, this chakra is blocked, the individual may appear to lack self-esteem or perhaps to have his head always in the clouds. Low sexual drive and feelings of insecurity are associated with deficient energy flow through and around this first chakra. Conversely, when the energy of the first chakra is excessive, (as in out of balance with the other chakras), the individual experiencing this may appear to be egotistical, selfish, materialistic, dominating and with a sexual focus that is solely genital.

The second chakra may be found in the area of the sacrum, about one inch below the navel and about one inch inward towards the diaphragm. Its basis is in the emotions, sexuality, desires. It’s primal foundation is energy/power in its raw form. They color of the aura radiated is orange. It governs the etheric body. Its element is water and its endocrine gland is the pancreas. The body parts associated with the function of this chakra are the urinary tract, sexual organs, and the five vertebrae of the sacrum. This chakra also dictates to the principle of taste. When this chakra is open and balanced you will experience your creative forces, friendliness, an attuning to feelings, intuition and a concern for others. Block this chakra and you may feels resentful, very shy, frozen with fear, guilty about sexuality, untrusting and a submerging of emotions. When this chakra’s energy is excessive, aggression is the hallmark, manipulation the method of self serving the volatile emotions one experiences, others are seen merely as sex objects.

The third chakra is located near the solar plexus near the central cavity of the lungs. It governs the astral body. Its basis is personal power and metabolic energy. Its endocrine gland is the adrenal. The color of the aura radiated is bright yellow. Its primal essence is that of the Will. Its foundation is based on one’s individual essence and beingness. Its element is Fire. The energy of this chakra works on the diaphragm and the ganglia. A balanced third chakra manifests as joyfullness, good self-esteem, strong personal power, a relaxed attitude and enjoyment of multiple skills. When blocked a sense of self consciousness may be felt as well as low self-esteem, lack of personal energy, confusion, insecurity. Excessive third chakra energy may be behind the workaholic who is too intellectual for joyfullness. Resentment of authority and inferiority or superiority complexes also stem from this excess.

The fourth chakra is known as the Heart chakra. It’s location is about two to three inches above the solar plexus and it roots out to the heart organ and it considered to be in the general area between the upper lung cavity to the heart cavity. The color of the aura radiated is an emerald green. Its basis is love, associations, relations, and compassion. Its primal essence is interrelationships and all that is in the arena of love. Its element is air. Its endocrine gland is the thymus and therefore affects significantly the immune system. It governs the mental body. And is the gateway to the astral body. It is the processor of the strong emotions: Joy, pain, fear and anger. The transition from the third to the fourth chakra is the most difficult. The three lower chakra all deal with the five senses realm of our lives and are the easiest to comprehend. There is much more ‘tangible’ about the first three especially to those of us raised in the occidental cultures. A balanced heart chakra allows unconditional love, empathy, compassion, emotional stability. Sexual energy in an open and balanced heart chakra takes on the character of love, compassion and prayer. Blocked heart energy is evident in paranoia, indecisiveness, self pity, inhibitions. Excessive energy in the heart chakra may manifest as tension, manic depression, possessiveness, demanding, swift mood swings, hypercritical.

The fifth chakra is in the area of the throat about midway between the skull and the lower neck cavity. It is about one inch inward from the throat. It is in a linear vertical alignment with the spinal cord. The color of the aura radiated is an azure blue or sometimes a turquoise. It’s basis is communication and creativity. Its essence is vibrational, to focus and direct. Its element is sound. Its endocrine gland is the thyroid. It governs the spiritual body. The energy of the throat chakra works on the throat, neck and face including facial expressions, gestures and even the amount of personal space that is required. This chakra’s energy provides the linking of the awareness of our existence in the subtle world and physical world simultaneously. When the throat chakra is balanced an individual is able to articulate artistically. They are centered individuals who live in the here and NOW and easily experience divine energy. Blockages in the throat chakra creates inconsistencies, unreliability, inability to express thoughts, manipulation tendencies and even cowardice. Excesses of this chakra’s energy take on an air of self righteousness, arrogance and a desire to force opinions on others. This chakra is able to process all kinds of energy and turn it into love. The proverbs say that out of the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks and the new testament tells us that God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind. It is in opening and balancing this chakra that we are able to most powerfully manifest these truths. By the same token, we are cautioned that the tongue is the most unruly member.

The sixth chakra is referred to as the third eye chakra. It is located in the central cavity of the brain. Its basis is the intuition faculty and all that is governed with the imagination. The color of the aura radiated in the open and balanced sixth chakra is a deep rich purple, such as amethyst. It is the link from which we perceive the higher zones and higher planes. Its element is light. Its endocrine gland is the pituitary. Its essence is within the astral and dreaming worlds. It is the governor of the cosmic body. Open and balanced this chakra allows telepathy, total vision, charismatic fearlessness and self mastery. Block the third eye chakra and become undisciplined, oversensitive, meek, afraid of success, dissolute and even schizophrenic. Allow excessive energy through this chakra and become egotistical, arrogant, manipulative, and dogmatic.

The seventh chakra is the Crown chakra. It is located at the pivot axis point of the skull at the very top where the three plates of the skull intersect. The color of the aura or ‘halo’ radiated is a brilliant white light. Its basis is that of knowledge, information, understanding. It is one’s refined thoughts. Its essence is blissfulness. Its element if thought. Its endocrine gland is the pineal. It is the governor of the energy of the nirvanic body. Open and balanced with all the other chakras, this energy allows freedom from the fear of death, the performance of miracles, the openness to the Divine. When blocked a person may become indecisive, without creativeness or joy in life and even melancholic. Excessive energy through this chakra may cause frustration, manic depression, migraine headaches and worst of all, unrealized negative power.

Accessing and opening the chakras may be accomplished by some simple techniques faithfully applied coupled with a willingness to become the entire person you were designed to be. Hatha yoga techniques of tensing and relaxing muscles and deep rhythmic breathing are essential aids in locating the chakras in your own body. Visualization of the opening of these energy conduits furthers the process. A courageous and honest heart will allow you to remember all the people you have been in your life, all the ways in which you have acted, reacted and interacted with your environment and other people and will assist you in recollecting any discarded or buried parts of yourself and allow the reuniting of them all into the total you with unconditional love and acceptance for self. The idea that where attention goes, energy flows is conducive to the opening of our energy centers in that it is the first step toward recognition that we are but each one an entire center of energy vortices in a universe of unlimited renewable energy and thereby enable the wheels of our individual energy fields to give and receive all the energy needed and desired to do good works and even attain a living, conscious, interacting, oneness with the creation.

We have all been told since we were young that we only use a miniscule portion of our brains. The opening and balancing of our energy centers and the creativity that accompanies that state, is part of the purpose for the seemingly unneeded portions of our brains. There is already at work, perhaps outside of one’s immediate consciousness, a Cosmic consciousness that inexorably links each one to each other one in much the same concept of the one body that Christ speaks to us of in the gospels.

The first thing one has to know to receive anything is, "what is available?"

The next thing one has to know to receive anything is, "how to receive it?"

Then we need to know what to do with it after we’ve got it. The energy of the universe is user friendly. Now that you know WHAT is available and some of how to receive it, let the energy itself teach you what to do with it after you’ve got it. It will be wonderfully unique for each one brave enough to make the first move.

Thank you for letting me share this with you.
