I just read your story on ID thieves and the jail listings. The call for closing more public records as they help those who might steal your id, or SS# is totally off base.
It is not the government job to protect private industry. The Financial Industry must step up to the plate and make sure that they have the correct person with the correct information. It is not a government job to do it for them. Why does the media insist on making this a government program?
Public records should be open to the public, all of them. Financial Institutions should except the risk of doing business, and protect their customers via new technology. If the Financial Institutions wan to implant chips, do DNA scans, Retina Scans etc. that is fully within their means for doing business. To use this problem as a means to close public records and allow our government to operate in secrecy is bait and switch.
If the Financial Institutions can not protect their customers then they should go broke. That is capitalism, what many are calling for is not.
